The entrance test

Every applicant sits the first stage; each step below narrows to the last.

  1. Sit the Kent Test

  2. Reach the county selective standard

  3. Ranked — premium & sibling tiers, then Thanet area, then distance

  4. Places offered

    180

A co-educational grammar school on the Isle of Thanet that brings together the former Chatham House Grammar School (boys) and Clarendon House Grammar School (girls) — Chatham House took the current name on academy conversion in 2011 and Clarendon House was amalgamated in by 2013 — working across lower, upper and sixth-form sites in Ramsgate. Entry is via the Kent Test; when oversubscribed, priority runs looked-after children, health / special-access, Pupil or Service Premium, siblings, staff children, then a defined Thanet-and-north-Kent-coast area, then everyone else by distance.

How places are decided

Catchment & priority area

Area-based priority

A defined priority area covering Thanet, Broomfield, Chestfield, Herne, Herne Bay, Reculver, Swalecliffe and Whitstable — a broad coastal strip, not just Ramsgate — is criterion 6 of 7 in the oversubscription order, above only the general list. Its exact boundary is a map in the school's admission arrangements. Within every tier, and for applicants outside the area, straight-line distance decides.
